The importance of humidifying the atmosphere
Environment enthusiasts often stress the importance of humidifying the air of the house with humidifiers fixed to the radiators. The humidifier for the radiator, in porcelain, pottery or plastic, should always be kept clean and the water should be changed frequently so as to avoid the accumulation of bacteria.
The optimal level of humidity in a house should be between 40 and 60 per cent; if the level is low and the air is dry, the mucosa of the outer respiratory tract tends to dry up, causing a drop in local immune defences and a higher susceptibility to attack from viruses.
